Islamabad: Former Pakistani Prime Minister and cricket legend Imran Khan’s sisters were reportedly subjected to violent treatment outside Adiala Jail in Rawalpindi. The Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) party has alleged that police brutally detained Alima Khan, Norain Niazi, and Dr. Uzma Khan while they were peacefully waiting to meet Khan inside the prison.
According to PTI, the women had gone to the jail late Tuesday night for a scheduled family visit but were denied access. Instead, police allegedly used excessive force, dragging the women violently and causing panic among PTI supporters present at the scene.
A PTI statement on social media platform X also reported that other individuals, including Khyber Pakhtunkhwa local government minister Meena Khan Afridi and National Assembly member Shahid Khattak, along with several women and PTI workers, were subjected to police aggression and forceful removal.
PTI Condemns the Action
PTI criticized the police for allegedly using the incident as a means of harassment and intimidation, despite the family’s legal right to meet Imran Khan in jail. A video released by PTI reportedly shows Alima and Uzma Khan gathered around Norain, visibly shaken following the alleged violent action. Alima Khan described the incident, saying:
“They were dragging us on the street. I still don’t understand what happened.”
The party further alleged that female officers had pulled their hair, pushed them to the ground, and dragged them violently, even though PTI supporters had been sitting peacefully outside the jail prior to the incident.
This incident has intensified tensions around Imran Khan’s imprisonment and raised serious concerns over treatment of family members and political supporters by authorities in Pakistan.
