The United States presented an ambitious master plan for the reconstruction of Gaza, aiming to transform the war-torn region into a modern urban hub. The plan was unveiled during a signing ceremony at the World Economic Forum in Davos, organized under President Donald Trump’s “Board of Peace.”
Senior White House advisor and Trump’s son-in-law Jared Kushner showcased the plan, which envisions dozens of high-rise towers along the Mediterranean coast and new housing estates in Rafah, resembling a contemporary American cityscape.
President Trump praised the initiative, saying, “We are going to be very successful in Gaza. It’s going to be a beautiful thing to see. I am a real estate person at heart, and it’s all about location. Look at this piece of property by the sea—it has so much potential for so many people.”
No Plan B for Gaza
Kushner outlined a multi-phase strategy for the region, emphasizing demilitarization and security measures:
- Hamas must immediately surrender all heavy weapons, including missiles, rockets, and anti-tank systems.
- Smaller weapons will be phased out under the supervision of a newly formed Palestinian police force, moving from south to north.
- Hamas members who voluntarily disarm will be granted amnesty and integrated into Palestinian civil forces, subject to strict vetting.
- Once demilitarization is confirmed in a designated sector by the International Stabilization Force (ISF), the Israeli military will return to defined security zones.
Four-Phase Redevelopment
The US plan outlines four stages of reconstruction, beginning in Rafah and gradually extending northward toward Gaza City. Highlights include:
- A coastal reserve zone featuring 180 tower blocks.
- A new port and airport near the Egyptian border.
- A tri-lateral crossing point at the convergence of Egyptian and Israeli borders.
- In southern Rafah alone, plans include over 100,000 housing units, 200 educational centers, and 75 medical facilities.
Kushner estimated that rebuilding Rafah could take two to three years, noting that debris removal and preliminary demolition work had already begun.
The plan has been described as a bold attempt to reshape Gaza’s skyline, infrastructure, and governance, with a focus on urban modernization, economic development, and security stabilization.
