The United States Navy has seized another oil tanker in the Caribbean, targeting vessels linked to Venezuela amid ongoing sanctions enforcement. The ship, named Olina, marks the fifth tanker taken under the Trump administration’s crackdown on illicit oil shipments.
According to the US Southern Command, Marines and Navy personnel carried out the early morning operation, which was documented in a video showing a US helicopter landing on the vessel and troops conducting a thorough inspection. The Command emphasized, “There is no safe haven for criminals.”
This seizure forms part of broader efforts by the Trump administration to control the global distribution of Venezuelan oil products, especially following the sudden removal of President Nicolás Maduro from power.
Previously, the US had also seized the Russian-flagged tanker Marinera, whose crew included three Indian nationals. The US is reportedly considering legal action against the crew. Russia has expressed serious concerns over the seizure, calling on the US to respect international maritime laws and denouncing what it terms as “neo-colonial tendencies.”
