US National Guard Attack Near White House: Trump Calls It an Act of Terror, Says Attacker Came From Afghanistan

In a late-night address, US President Donald Trump condemned the shocking shooting attack on two National Guard members near the White House, calling it “an act of evil, hatred, and terrorism.” Trump stated that the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) has strong evidence indicating that the suspect arrived in the United States from Afghanistan.

According to Trump, DHS believes the attacker entered the country during the Biden administration. He alleged that the individual was brought into the US in September 2021 under a special immigration program. “Based on the best available information, DHS is confident that the suspect in custody is a foreign national who came here from Afghanistan—a place that has become hell on earth,” Trump said.

Calling it a “point-blank, horrific, ambush-style attack,” the President expressed outrage that such an incident occurred just steps away from the White House and on the eve of the Thanksgiving holiday. He added that the attackers targeted the National Guard personnel without warning.

Trump also urged a comprehensive review of all individuals who entered the country from Afghanistan during the previous administration. “We must re-examine every foreign national who came from Afghanistan under the Biden administration. We must take every necessary step to remove anyone who does not belong here or who poses a threat to our nation.”

US Homeland Security Secretary Kristi Noem echoed similar concerns. Posting on X (formerly Twitter), she stated that the suspect was an Afghan citizen who arrived in the US on mass parole under “Operation Allies Welcome” on 8 September 2021, without thorough vetting. Noem emphasized that she would not name the attacker publicly, saying, “He does not deserve the dignity he seeks.”

The attack has sparked intense political debate over immigration policies and national security lapses. As investigations continue, security measures around Washington, D.C., have been significantly tightened.
