Washington: The United States is reportedly on the verge of launching its largest-ever military operation against Iran, with reports suggesting that a major strike could take place as early as this weekend. The rapidly escalating American military buildup in the Middle East has intensified fears that West Asia may be heading towards a devastating regional war.
According to multiple international reports, the US has positioned a massive fleet of warships, fighter jets, and refuelling aircraft in the region, indicating preparations for what analysts believe could be a long-term military campaign against Iran.
A report by The Telegraph, citing a source close to the US administration, claimed that the chances of a full-scale war between the United States and Iran in the coming week could be as high as 90 percent. The report further stated that the attack could be launched by the end of this week.
F-16s and F-35s Deployed to “Break the Door Open”
Military experts have suggested that the deployment of advanced aircraft such as F-16s and F-35s is aimed at clearing the way for deeper strikes inside Iran.
Sasha Bruchmann, a research fellow at the International Institute for Strategic Studies (IISS) in Bahrain, said the aircraft are being deployed to open access routes for strikes on primary targets.
“The F-16s and F-35s are here to break the door open. Once the path is cleared, President Trump may order the strike,” Bruchmann reportedly said.
Thousands of Military and Political Targets Could Be Hit
A report by Axios warned that the US is approaching the brink of a large-scale conflict with Iran. According to American officials quoted in the report, any military operation would not be limited to a few installations but could involve thousands of targets, including both military and political centres.
US officials reportedly indicated that the military assets being moved into the region would support a long-running campaign, not a short and symbolic strike.
CNN Claims Strike Could Happen by Weekend
Meanwhile, CNN cited sources saying that the US military is fully prepared to strike Iran by the weekend, although President Donald Trump has not yet taken a final decision.
Reports suggest that Trump has been privately weighing the pros and cons of launching the operation and has been consulting top advisers and allies. The final call now rests solely with the White House.
Former Israeli Intelligence Chief Warns War Could Begin in Days
Former head of Israeli Military Intelligence, Amos Yadlin, has also warned that war could erupt within days. He described the large American deployment as a sign of preparation for a prolonged and highly destructive conflict.
Massive US Military Build-up in the Middle East
Reports indicate that the US has deployed a significant portion of its active naval force into West Asia. The buildup reportedly includes:
- Hundreds of fighter jets
- Two aircraft carriers
- Over 150 cargo flights carrying weapons
- More than 50 F-35, F-22, F-16 fighter jets positioned near Iran
- Around 33 naval vessels, including destroyers, submarines equipped with Tomahawk missiles, and carrier strike groups
Experts believe that if the operation begins, it could become one of the most powerful and extensive military campaigns in modern history.
West Asia on the Brink
The growing military presence, combined with rising political tensions, has created an atmosphere of uncertainty across West Asia. A full-scale US-Iran conflict could trigger a chain reaction involving multiple regional powers, potentially leading to a catastrophic war across the Middle East.
With the world watching closely, the coming days could determine whether diplomacy prevails—or whether the region plunges into one of the most dangerous conflicts of the decade.
