Tensions Escalate Between China and Taiwan: Beijing Mobilizes Army, Navy, and Rocket Units; Taipei Responds with Troop Deployment

Amid rising tensions in the region, China has mobilized its army, navy, and rocket units near Taiwan for large-scale military exercises, intensifying the already fragile situation. In response, Taiwan has also deployed its forces, signaling a heightened state of alert.

China’s Aggressive Military Maneuvers
The long-standing dispute between China and Taiwan has once again flared up. On Monday, China announced major military exercises near Taiwan, aiming to test its combat readiness and send a warning against any moves toward Taiwanese independence. Beijing has deployed its forces strategically across five maritime zones surrounding the island, including the Taiwan Strait, northern, southwestern, southeastern, and eastern sectors.

The Chinese Eastern Theater Command labeled these exercises “Just Mission 2025”. Officials stated that these drills would impose 10-hour restrictions on air and sea zones to conduct patrols, establish full operational control, and secure key ports and strategic areas. Eastern Theater spokesperson Xi Yi emphasized that the exercises were designed to strengthen war preparedness and maintain dominance over the surrounding maritime and airspace.

Taiwan’s Firm Response
Taiwanese authorities condemned China’s military mobilization as a direct threat to regional security and stability in the Taiwan Strait and the broader Indo-Pacific region. Presidential spokesperson Karen Kuo stated that China’s actions violate international laws and undermine global order, using military intimidation against neighboring countries.

In response, Taiwan has deployed appropriate forces around the island and established a response center. Its armed forces also conducted rapid response drills to ensure readiness against any potential Chinese aggression.

Background
China’s aggressive posture towards Taiwan intensified after former U.S. House Speaker Nancy Pelosi’s visit to the island in 2022, which Beijing viewed as a demonstration of American support for Taiwan. Since then, Beijing has consistently increased military pressure on the island.

The latest developments underscore the fragile balance in the region and the risks posed by escalatory military actions, highlighting the need for careful diplomacy and vigilant defense measures on both sides.
