Su-35 vs Mirage 2000: Ukraine’s Skies Witness High-Stakes Air Supremacy Battle

Kyiv: The skies over Ukraine have become a battlefield for air supremacy, with Russian Su-35 fighter jets clashing against French-made Mirage 2000 aircraft. Both sides are releasing videos to demonstrate their aerial dominance, reflecting the ongoing struggle for control in the region.

Russian state-owned company Rostec claimed that its Su-35S jets forced Western F-16s and Mirage 2000s into low-altitude maneuvers, while targeting enemy positions from hundreds of kilometers away. According to Rostec CEO, the Su-35’s advanced Irbis-E radar can detect targets up to 400 km away, and long-range missiles like R-77 and R-37M enhance its strike precision. Russia has reportedly lost around eight Su-35 jets in the conflict so far.

Meanwhile, Ukraine has highlighted the performance of its Mirage 2000s. The Ukrainian Air Force released a video claiming that the Mirage 2000’s Magic 2 missiles have proven highly effective, with a 98% success rate in neutralizing Russian missiles and drones. Ukrainian pilots stressed that constant Russian aerial surveillance necessitates new fighter jets and missile systems for effective defense.

The Mirage 2000, a fourth-generation multirole fighter introduced in 1999, competes with American F-16s in capability. It is capable of delivering precision strikes, including nuclear payloads, and is also in service with the Indian Air Force. Ukraine has announced plans to acquire additional Mirage 2000 jets to strengthen its air defense amid ongoing Russian attacks.

Analysts say the videos and claims from both sides underline the intense competition for air dominance in Ukraine, with advanced fighter jets playing a decisive role in the ongoing conflict.
