Sheikh Hasina Denounces Allegations Against India in Osman Hadi Murder Case

Dhaka: Former Prime Minister of Bangladesh, Sheikh Hasina, has strongly dismissed allegations linking India to the murder of student leader Sharif Osman Hadi, calling them entirely baseless. She also criticized the interim government led by Nobel laureate Muhammad Yunus for its failure to maintain law and order.

In an interview with NDTV, Sheikh Hasina said, “The tragic and condemnable murder of Sharif Osman Hadi was a direct consequence of the law-and-order vacuum and election-related violence under the interim government led by Muhammad Yunus.”

Sheikh Hasina further accused Yunus of inaction following Hadi’s murder, stating that extremist elements exploited the government’s failure to advance their radical agendas, incite unrest, attack democratic institutions, and divert attention from the interim administration’s shortcomings.

Addressing attempts to link India to the killing, Sheikh Hasina said, “Efforts to involve India in Osman Hadi’s murder are deliberate and completely unfounded. These attempts are being made by extremist forces who wish to portray the interim government’s failures as part of an external conspiracy.”

Hadi was shot last month in Dhaka and later flown to Singapore for treatment, but he could not be saved. Following the incident, widespread violent protests erupted across Bangladesh, straining relations between Dhaka and New Delhi. India has categorically rejected all allegations, calling them a “fabricated story,” and has called for a full investigation into the case.

Sheikh Hasina emphasized that attempts to blame India are politically motivated and serve to undermine Bangladesh’s closest ally while masking domestic governance failures
