Rare Snowfall Transforms Saudi Arabian Desert Mountains; Sparks Discussion on Prophet’s Prophecy

Riyadh: When one thinks of Saudi Arabia, the first images that come to mind are scorching deserts and endless sunshine. However, northern Saudi Arabia recently witnessed a spectacular winter phenomenon, as desert mountains were blanketed in snow, creating a breathtaking sight.

The snow fell in the Tabuk region and the Turaijan Highlands, particularly at Jabal Al-Lawz, where temperatures dropped below zero. Jabal Al-Lawz, literally meaning “Mountain of Almonds,” stands at around 2,580 meters above sea level in the northwest of the country. The unusual snowfall attracted attention from both locals and tourists, who shared photos and videos of the pristine white landscape across social media.

According to reports from Saudi Gazette, the snowfall was accompanied by light to moderate rain in several areas, including Bir Bin Hirmas, Al-Uyunah, Halat Ammar, and Shigri. The National Center for Meteorology (NCM) has issued warnings of moderate to heavy thunderstorms and rain for Riyadh, the Eastern Province, and parts of the northern borders.

The rare weather event has sparked widespread discussion online. Many users questioned whether the images were real or digitally altered, while others linked the snowfall to Islamic prophecies. Some believe it could be a sign of the end times, referencing sayings of Prophet Muhammad that predict the Arabian Peninsula will become green and fertile again in the latter days.

Experts note that while snowfall in mountainous regions like Tabuk and Al-Chouf is not entirely unprecedented, recent changes in rainfall patterns have captured public interest. Increased precipitation in desert areas could help the soil retain moisture, potentially turning arid regions into fertile land, supporting the growth of vegetation over time.

This rare natural spectacle has not only provided a stunning visual but also reignited conversations about environmental shifts and historical prophecies in the region.
