Rajnath Singh’s ‘Sindh May Return to India’ Remark Sparks Uproar in Pakistan; Sindh CM Murad Ali Shah Reacts Sharply

Islamabad/New Delhi:
A major political storm has erupted in Pakistan after Indian Defence Minister Rajnath Singh remarked that “Sindh could one day return to India, as boundaries can change.” The statement has provoked a sharp reaction from the Pakistan government, particularly from Sindh Chief Minister Murad Ali Shah, who called Singh’s comments “irresponsible” and “a daytime fantasy.”

Speaking on social media, CM Murad Ali Shah asserted that Sindh is an inseparable and integral part of Pakistan, adding, “Sindh was, is, and will remain part of Pakistan. Indian leaders should stop dreaming.”

**Why Pakistan Is Agitated?

Separatist Movements Fuel Sensitivity**

Rajnath Singh’s statement has struck a raw nerve in Pakistan, where multiple regions — including Balochistan, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and Sindh — have long witnessed separatist stirrings.
Because of this internal fragility, Singh’s reference to Sindh’s “civilizational” links with India has triggered widespread anxiety and outrage among Pakistani leaders.

Several Pakistani politicians condemned the remarks, accusing India of trying to “interfere” in Pakistan’s internal matters.

Murad Ali Shah Attempts a History Lesson

Responding to Singh, the Sindh Chief Minister highlighted that Sindh separated from the Bombay Presidency in 1936, decades before Pakistan was formed. He said Sindh’s people have always been proud of their cultural identity and autonomy, and any “external attempts to exploit these sentiments” would not be tolerated.

Indian Expert: ‘Rajnath Singh Knew the Impact’

Speaking to Navbharat Times, a senior Indian military expert (who requested anonymity) suggested that Rajnath Singh’s words were carefully calibrated.

“Of course he knows such a statement would go viral across Pakistan. If he still said it, there must be strategic reasons,” the expert noted, hinting at a deeper geopolitical messaging behind Singh’s comment.

What Exactly Did Rajnath Singh Say?

During a public programme, the Defence Minister remarked:

  • “On a civilizational level, Sindh will always remain a part of India.”
  • “Borders can change. Who knows, Sindh may return to India in the future.”
  • He also added that Sindhi Hindus have still not accepted Sindh’s inclusion in Pakistan.

The remarks have now taken the India–Pakistan debate to a new level, igniting political discourse, strategic speculation, and strong reactions across the border.
