Pakistani Defence Minister Accuses India of Afghan Attacks, Warns of Two-Front Conflict

Islamabad: Pakistan’s Defence Minister Khawaja Asif has openly blamed India for attacks launched from Afghan soil, signaling growing tensions in the region. Speaking to the media, Asif claimed that India is actively involved in cross-border operations from Afghanistan and warned that Islamabad could become entangled in a two-front conflict if the situation escalates.

According to Pakistani media reports, Asif highlighted that India’s actions are a key factor in the ongoing tensions between Afghanistan and Pakistan, alleging that New Delhi does not want Kabul and Islamabad to resolve their disputes peacefully.

Regional Concerns and Mediation Efforts

Asif also mentioned that Saudi Arabia, the UAE, Iran, and China have urged Pakistan to halt cross-border incursions. His statements come amid heightened tensions between Afghan Taliban forces and Pakistan, following recent clashes that resulted in significant casualties on both sides. A ceasefire was brokered on 19 October through the mediation of Turkey and Qatar.

Indian Army Chief’s Warning Triggers Reaction

Asif’s accusations come shortly after Indian Army Chief General Upendra Dwivedi warned that India is prepared to respond decisively to any acts of aggression. Speaking at the Chanakya Defence Dialogue, General Dwivedi emphasized that those who promote or sponsor terrorism would face strong retaliation.

Commenting on India-Pakistan conflicts, General Dwivedi referenced Operation Sindoor, calling it “just a trailer” that concluded in 88 hours, and asserted that the Indian Armed Forces would ensure Pakistan is held accountable for any wrongdoing.

In his remarks, General Dwivedi also stressed India’s stance on terrorism and dialogue, stating, “Water and blood cannot flow together; discussion and terrorism cannot coexist.” His comments followed a major car bombing near Delhi’s Red Fort on 10 November, underscoring India’s concerns about Pakistan-sponsored terrorism.
