Pakistan Seeks to Encircle India with China-Bangladesh Alliance: Islamabad Claims

Islamabad: Pakistan has once again indicated its ambition to form a regional bloc alongside China and Bangladesh, deliberately leaving India out, in what appears to be a strategic move to strengthen its position in South Asia. According to Pakistan’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the government is committed to advancing the tripartite cooperation framework with Beijing and Dhaka to enhance regional connectivity, trade, and development.

Tripartite Initiative Under Discussion

Speaking to reporters on Thursday, Foreign Ministry spokesperson Tahir Andrabi confirmed that the framework was launched last year at senior official levels and discussions among the three nations are ongoing. He emphasized that closer ties between Pakistan and Bangladesh are facilitating progress within this framework.

Andrabi stated, “We remain committed to the Pakistan-China-Bangladesh cooperation mechanism. Our aim is to advance previous discussions to achieve tangible outcomes that promote peace, progress, and prosperity for our people. Future dialogues will continue to deliver practical benefits.”

Focus on Economic Cooperation, Not Politics

The Pakistani official stressed that Islamabad’s engagement with China is ongoing in both bilateral and trilateral formats, underscoring that the initiative prioritizes economic development and regional collaboration over political bloc formation. Similarly, efforts with Bangladesh aim to strengthen bilateral ties and foster mutual growth.

Strategic Motive: India Left Out

Analysts note that Pakistan is attempting to create a strong South Asian front without India. Support from Bangladesh under Prime Minister Mohammad Yunus appears to encourage Islamabad’s efforts. Recent statements from Dhaka indicate that joining such a bloc, excluding India, would not face opposition from Bangladesh.

Tahir Andrabi also highlighted that with SAARC weakening, Pakistan sees an opportunity to propose a new regional alliance. China is reportedly supportive of Pakistan’s ambitions, and Islamabad is actively seeking to include China and Bangladesh in this emerging coalition.

This move could significantly alter regional dynamics in South Asia, raising questions about India’s strategic position and the balance of economic and political power in the region.
