Pakistan News: Baloch Rebels Launch Fierce Attack in Khuzdar, Reports of Nuclear Site at Risk

Islamabad: Intense clashes are underway in Khuzdar, Balochistan, between Pakistani security forces and Baloch insurgents. Reports suggest that a large group of Baloch militants launched an attack on a major military installation in Khuzdar, a district considered strategically critical due to its military infrastructure and alleged deployment of Pakistan’s nuclear-capable missiles.

Heavy Fighting in Khuzdar
According to multiple sources, the confrontation in Khuzdar involves heavy exchanges of fire between the Baloch insurgents and Pakistani forces. Khuzdar hosts one of Pakistan’s largest military cantonments, making it a focal point in the ongoing unrest in the province.

Social media accounts have highlighted the intensity of the fighting. One user, using the handle Open Angle, tweeted:
“Reports from Khuzdar indicate severe clashes between Baloch freedom fighters and desperate Pakistani government forces. This district is strategically critical, hosting Pakistan’s largest military cantonment, and the situation remains unstable.”

Another observer, Hamad Baloch, added:
“Khuzdar is witnessing armed confrontations between Baloch groups and Pakistani forces. The area is highly strategic and reportedly houses a potential nuclear missile base. Tensions remain extremely high.”

Pakistan to Increase Military Deployment
In response to escalating violence, Pakistan’s Defence Minister Khawaja Asif announced the need for increased troop deployment in Balochistan. Addressing the National Assembly, he emphasized the challenges posed by the province’s vast geography, which covers nearly 40% of Pakistan’s territory, making it difficult to monitor and control insurgent activity.

Asif said, “Our soldiers are deployed and engaging militants, but patrolling such a vast area is physically demanding. Recent attacks across 12 locations in the province resulted in 177 insurgents being neutralized, but the scale of the territory demands additional forces.”

The unrest in Khuzdar and the broader Balochistan region underscores the province’s ongoing security challenges and its strategic significance to Pakistan’s military infrastructure.
