Pakistan Deploys Long-Range Radar, Missiles, and Air Defense at Sir Creek: What Is Munir Planning?

Islamabad: Pakistan has significantly bolstered its military presence near the India border in recent months, with a fresh buildup at the Sir Creek area. The Pakistani Army has increased troop deployments and introduced advanced weaponry, including missiles, drones, and a reinforced air defense network. This expansion has raised serious security concerns for India.

High-Tech Radar and Air Defense

According to high-level sources cited by Times Now, Pakistan Army Chief Asim Munir is focusing on strengthening the air defense network in Sir Creek. Both American and Chinese radar systems have been installed in the region, particularly along the Makran coast, featuring a layered defense structure. This includes short-range, medium-range, and long-range radar systems capable of monitoring up to 1,000 km, providing extensive coverage of airspace near the India-Pakistan border.

Troop Deployment and Weapon Systems

A new marine brigade has been deployed at Sir Creek, comprising approximately 3,000 officers and soldiers. The area is reported to have surface-to-air missiles and killer drones, highlighting the Pakistani Army’s focus on preparing for rapid-response or contingency operations.

Sir Creek, located at the mouth of the Indus River, has been a longstanding border dispute zone between Pakistan’s Sindh province and India’s Gujarat state, covering 96 kilometers of marshy terrain. Both countries maintain territorial claims over this strategic area, and Pakistan’s enhanced military infrastructure raises questions about the intentions of Asim Munir.

Strengthening the Navy

Pakistan is also upgrading its naval capabilities. This year, the country plans to commission two to three Hangor-class submarines, part of an eight-submarine program. Of these, three are being built by China Shipbuilding Industry Corporation, one more in China, and four in Karachi. These submarines feature Air-Independent Propulsion (AIP) systems, enhancing their stealth and operational endurance.

Strategic Implications:
The expanded deployment of long-range radars, missiles, drones, and naval assets at Sir Creek signals Pakistan’s intent to consolidate its strategic control over this contested region, potentially affecting the security dynamics along the India-Pakistan border. India is likely monitoring these developments closely while assessing countermeasures to safeguard its territorial interests.
