Pakistan Deploys Journalists Ahead of Bangladesh Elections, Hosts Delegation with Diplomatic Fanfare

Dhaka: Ahead of the Bangladesh parliamentary elections scheduled for February 12, Pakistan has sent a large contingent of journalists and civil society representatives to the country. Over 30 Pakistani journalists have arrived to cover the elections, marking an unprecedented scale of media and diplomatic presence from Islamabad.

The Pakistan High Commission in Dhaka hosted a welcome dinner for the visiting journalists and delegation, signaling the strategic importance Islamabad places on the event and its narrative-building efforts. Sources suggest that the Bangladeshi interim government is covering the accommodation and meals for the Pakistani delegation.

Media Coverage and Strategic Interests
According to reports, the delegation includes senior journalists from major Pakistani networks such as Geo News, ARY News, Samaa News, PTV News, along with well-known civil society figures. Pakistan’s Ministry of Information and Broadcasting has reportedly instructed domestic media outlets to provide favorable coverage of the Bangladesh elections. Certain delegation members were allegedly briefed to highlight positive developments in Pakistan-Bangladesh relations.

Retired Lieutenant General Syed Ata Hasnain told Navbharat Times that “Pakistan recognized the importance of narrative-building immediately after independence, which is why it created a media wing within its army. India, in contrast, did not focus on strategic narrative management.”

Pakistan’s Military Monitors Developments
A senior source revealed that Pakistan’s military is closely monitoring political developments surrounding the Bangladesh elections, reflecting Islamabad’s strategic interest in Dhaka. In recent months, Pakistan and Bangladesh have made efforts to strengthen ties, including military cooperation, especially following changes in Sheikh Hasina’s government. The arrival of journalists and civil society activists underscores Pakistan’s active role in shaping public perception and consolidating influence in South Asia.
