Pakistan Defence Minister Khawaja Asif Threatens Air Strikes in Afghanistan, Warns of Possible War With India

Islamabad: Pakistan’s Defence Minister Khawaja Asif has issued a fresh warning of military escalation, claiming that Pakistan could carry out air strikes inside Afghanistan and stating that another war with India remains a “possibility” under the current circumstances.

In a controversial statement, Asif accused India and Afghanistan of allegedly supporting proxy terrorism against Pakistan, while also blaming Kabul for allowing militant organisations to operate from Afghan soil.

Asif’s remarks were made during an interview with French news channel France 24, where he claimed that Pakistan would not hesitate to launch aerial attacks across the border if Afghanistan fails to guarantee peace and stability.

“If Kabul does not ensure peace, Pakistan will not hesitate to conduct further air strikes inside Afghanistan,” Asif said.

Accuses India and Kabul of Supporting Proxy Terror

The Pakistani Defence Minister alleged that India, Afghan authorities, and terrorist groups were working together against Pakistan. He claimed that India would continue to deny these allegations despite maintaining close ties with Afghan officials.

“India, Kabul and terrorist organisations are on the same page in targeting Pakistan,” Asif claimed, without providing concrete evidence.

He further stressed that the possibility of war with India cannot be ruled out.

“War with India remains a possibility in the current situation,” he warned.

Statement Comes Amid Rising Blame Game

Asif’s comments come at a time when Pakistan has increasingly blamed India for nearly every major terror incident occurring within its borders over the past several months.

Following the Pahalgam terror attack last year, Pakistan has repeatedly accused India of being responsible for attacks inside Pakistan. Analysts, however, note that Islamabad has a long history of supporting and sheltering extremist groups, which have often turned against the Pakistani state itself.

Pakistan-Taliban Tensions Escalate

Asif also accused Afghanistan of failing to act against terror outfits, particularly Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP), which Pakistan claims operates freely from Afghan territory.

He stated that Islamabad made multiple attempts to resolve disputes with the Taliban government, including meetings in Istanbul and Doha, but the talks produced no meaningful outcome.

Asif claimed Afghan officials admitted during discussions that TTP militants were operating from their region.

Regional Stability Under Threat

The latest remarks from Pakistan’s Defence Minister have raised concerns over further instability in the region. Threats of cross-border air strikes in Afghanistan and the suggestion of potential conflict with India risk escalating tensions in an already volatile South Asian security environment.

With relations strained between Pakistan, Afghanistan, and India, observers fear that such statements could fuel further military confrontation and deepen diplomatic tensions across the region.
