Islamabad: Despite suffering significant losses in its recent military encounters with India, Pakistan continues to assert itself as a military victor, now claiming rising global demand for its JF-17 fighter jets. Pakistani Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif stated that countries including Saudi Arabia, Indonesia, Bangladesh, Sudan, and Libya are reportedly interested in purchasing these aircraft, although none of these nations—except Libya—have confirmed these claims.
Sharif highlighted Pakistan’s recent defense achievements, saying, “Following last year’s military successes, Pakistan’s defense production has strengthened considerably.” He added that these developments are expected to boost the country’s defense capabilities and promote national economic growth.
Global Demand Claims Amid Controversy
The assertions come in the wake of revelations from U.S. government files, which exposed Pakistan’s repeated pleas for help to avoid Indian military operations during last year’s conflict. Experts suggest that the ongoing global promotion of JF-17 jets may be an attempt to salvage Pakistan’s international image following these disclosures.
Sharif also highlighted the successful testing of the Taimur missile system by the Pakistan Air Force and the LY-80 system by the Navy, calling the achievements a testament to the country’s military progress.
China’s Role in the JF-17 Campaign
Analysts note that the JF-17 program is predominantly Chinese, with 65% of the technology and production coming from China and only 35% from Pakistan. Some geopolitical experts argue that the international campaign promoting JF-17 sales is driven by Chinese interests, aiming to expand the global market for its defense exports.
While Pakistan continues to publicly claim global interest in its fighter jets, the lack of confirmation from prospective buyers casts doubt over the authenticity of these announcements.
