Widespread violence has gripped Pakistan’s Balochistan province since last Saturday, triggered by insurgent attacks led by the Baloch Liberation Army (BLA) against government forces.
Asim Munir Takes a Tough Stance
Pakistan Army Chief General Asim Munir has vowed to take strict action against insurgent groups targeting security forces in Balochistan. Speaking after visiting the province, Munir warned that those responsible for the attacks and their collaborators will not be spared. His strong statement raises concerns that the conflict in Balochistan could escalate further, as the BLA has already refused to back down.
On Wednesday, Munir, along with Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, visited a hospital in Quetta to meet those injured in the BLA attacks. According to Pakistani military sources, the Army alleged that India supported the BLA in carrying out these assaults. Munir emphasized that every individual responsible for the attacks will face justice.
Allegations of Indian Support
A statement from the Pakistan Army read: “General Munir was briefed on the situation in Balochistan, where India-backed terrorists carried out attacks aimed at undermining peace, stability, and development. The security forces successfully thwarted these attempts.”
During his visit to Quetta, Munir also discussed steps being taken to strengthen governance in Balochistan and ensure the protection of key infrastructure. He stressed that violence and terrorism cannot be justified under any pretext and vowed to deal firmly with those responsible.
BLA’s Escalating Operation
The Baloch Liberation Army, which seeks an independent Balochistan, has targeted military installations across the province for the past five days. Since Saturday, reports have emerged of bombings, attacks on army posts, and clashes between insurgents and security forces. Senior BLA commanders have reportedly taken direct control of operations on the ground.
The ongoing violence has raised alarm in both the Pakistani government and military, with reported casualties between 300 and 400 on both sides. Following the latest wave of attacks, the BLA has also seized several government offices in parts of the province, deepening Islamabad’s concerns over the security situation in Balochistan.
