Islamabad: In a move that has drawn significant attention in Pakistan, Army Chief General Asim Munir has arranged the marriage of his daughter to his own nephew. According to Pakistani journalists, including Zahid Ghishkori and Raja Munib, the wedding took place in Rawalpindi last week, uniting Munir’s daughter Mahanur with Abdur Rahman, the son of his brother Syed Qasim Munir.

Abdur Rahman, the groom, previously served as a captain in the Pakistan Army but later transitioned to civil services, where he currently holds the position of Assistant Commissioner. This intra-family union highlights the close-knit nature of Pakistan’s military elite and their influence across civil and military sectors.

The wedding was a high-profile affair, attended by several top dignitaries, including President Asif Ali Zardari, Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif, retired generals, and other senior military officials. Reports suggest that over 400 guests attended, though the event was kept relatively private due to security concerns. Notably, the President of the United Arab Emirates did not attend the ceremony.

Munir, who has four daughters, celebrated the wedding of his third daughter in a manner that has garnered both national and international media attention.
