Riyadh – Pakistan’s Army Chief and Chief of Defence Forces (CDF), Aseem Munir, was awarded the King Abdulaziz Medal, Saudi Arabia’s highest national honor, in recognition of his efforts to enhance bilateral defense and strategic cooperation between the two nations. The award was presented by Saudi Arabia’s Defence Minister, Prince Khalid bin Salman, in Riyadh.
The honor reflects the recent strengthening of defense ties between Pakistan and Saudi Arabia. Earlier this year, both countries signed a NATO-style defense agreement, under which an attack on either country would be considered an attack on both, effectively obliging Pakistan’s military to defend Saudi Arabia in case of conflict. Analysts view this as part of Saudi Arabia’s efforts to deepen its strategic and military engagement with Pakistan.
Prince Khalid shared images of the ceremony on social media platform X, noting: “I honored Aseem Munir with the King Abdulaziz Medal of Excellent Class for his outstanding efforts in fostering mutual cooperation and enhancing Saudi-Pakistan relations. During our meeting, we discussed promoting international peace and security along with matters of shared interest.”
According to an official statement from the Pakistan Army, the discussions during Munir’s visit focused on regional security, defense and military cooperation, strategic collaboration, and emerging geopolitical challenges. Both sides emphasized the importance of further strengthening the historic ties between Pakistan and Saudi Arabia.
Aseem Munir described receiving the prestigious honor as a matter of personal pride. He expressed gratitude to the Custodians of the Two Holy Mosques and the Saudi leadership, calling the award a symbol of enduring Pakistan-Saudi relations.
This high-profile recognition underscores the deepening military and strategic coordination between the two countries, with a potential for increased collaboration in defense and regional security in the near future.
