Islamabad: Pakistan Army Chief Field Marshal Asim Munir recently conducted a visit to a garrison near the India-Pakistan border in Lahore. According to a statement by the Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR), Munir, who also serves as Pakistan’s Chief of Defence Forces (CDF), observed a specialized field training exercise that highlighted the army’s focus on innovation and adaptation for future warfare scenarios.
This visit comes shortly after Pakistan’s military raised concerns about a perceived India-Afghanistan-Taliban alignment, which ISPR Director General Lieutenant General Ahmed Sharif Chaudhry described as a potential threat to Pakistan. Notably, Munir has been making more frequent trips to border regions in recent weeks, drawing attention amid the ongoing tensions between the two countries.
Inspection of Special Training Exercises
During the Lahore garrison visit, Munir reviewed a specialized field training exercise showcasing the use of advanced technology and modern tactics. He received a detailed briefing from the corps commander on operational readiness, training standards, and key initiatives aimed at enhancing the army’s combat capabilities. Addressing officers, Munir reiterated the army’s zero-tolerance approach toward national security threats.
In a marked departure from previous appearances, Munir was seen inspecting the exercises without the customary bulletproof glass, a move that contrasts with earlier instances where security protocols had sparked criticism. Besides military drills, he also reviewed sports and recreational facilities available for soldiers.
Repeated Border Visits Raise Questions
This visit is part of a series of recent inspections near India’s border. In mid-December 2025, Munir toured garrisons in Gujranwala and Sialkot in Pakistan’s Punjab province to review troop preparedness. Given the ongoing India-Pakistan tensions, the army chief’s visits to border areas have raised speculation about whether these trips are routine inspections or a prelude to potential military measures.
