Islamabad: A video circulating on social media has sparked widespread outrage in Pakistan, showing a Chinese national reportedly harassing burqa-clad women in public. The incident has raised concerns about the influence of Chinese nationals in Pakistan amid growing economic dependency on China.
The video, allegedly shot in Islamabad, shows the Chinese man offering cigarettes to women walking on the street. The women appear visibly uncomfortable and leave without responding, while laughter is heard in the background. In another clip, the same man is seen behaving provocatively in public, mocking locals and taking snacks from a street stall without paying.
Public Anger and Criticism
Social media users have expressed their anger at the perceived lawlessness allowed to foreign nationals. Israr Ahmed Rajput wrote, “Why are Chinese nationals allowed to commit crimes openly in Pakistan? In F-10 Center, Islamabad, a Chinese man is offering cigarettes to Muslim women in burqas. Who will teach these Chinese a lesson? If a Pakistani does this in China, it is punishable—these foreigners should face consequences for their actions.”
Another user, Fazal Afghan, commented, “A Chinese man humiliated Muslim women in Pakistan by offering cigarettes. He roams like a gangster, mocks people, and no one dares to question him. This happens when foreign creditors essentially control your country.” Afghan added that after the social media backlash, the Chinese national reportedly issued an apology online.
The video has reignited debate in Pakistan over the country’s economic dependence on China, with many criticizing the government for allowing Chinese nationals to operate with perceived impunity.
