
Ottawa: A mass shooting at a school in British Columbia, Canada, has left at least 10 people dead, including the suspected attacker, and several others injured, according to authorities. The tragic incident occurred on Tuesday at Tumbler Ridge Secondary School.
Details of the Shooting
The Royal Canadian Mounted Police (RCMP) reported that six victims were found dead inside the high school, while another died en route to the hospital. The suspected shooter was also found dead from self-inflicted injuries, CBC reported. Additionally, authorities discovered two more bodies at a nearby residence believed to be linked to the attack. Injured individuals received first aid on-site before being transported to hospitals for treatment.
Community Reacts to Tragedy
Local MLA Larry Newfield expressed deep sorrow over the incident, stating, “I am closely monitoring the situation at Tumbler Ridge following this tragic and deeply disturbing event. Police have confirmed multiple fatalities. With the suspect deceased, the active shooter alert has been lifted, but investigations are ongoing.”
Newfield thanked first responders, school staff, and local authorities for their swift and professional response. “My prayers are with the students, families, teachers, and the entire Tumbler Ridge community. This is a small, close-knit town, and such an event affects everyone profoundly,” he added.
Investigation Underway
Authorities are continuing to investigate the motives behind the shooting. “It is important that we allow the police to complete their investigation and confirm all details. Verified information will be shared as it becomes available,” Newfield said. He also urged anyone experiencing mental or emotional difficulties after the tragedy to seek support. No further details about the suspect have been released so far.
