Iran Warns of Strong Retaliation as Trump Threatens Military Action

Tehran: Iran has issued a firm warning to the United States, declaring that it will respond forcefully if American forces attack Iranian territory. The sharp response comes amid escalating tensions following repeated threats by U.S. President Donald Trump, who has hinted at military action during ongoing anti-government protests in Iran.

Iran’s statement was issued as nationwide protests entered their third week. Demonstrations that began over rising inflation and the sharp fall of the national currency have now spread across the country. Human rights groups claim that more than 500 people have been killed so far, including around 50 security personnel. Trump has publicly described the protests as a “freedom movement” and expressed support for the demonstrators.

Trump has warned that if Iranian authorities continue using force against protesters, the United States may intervene militarily. He stated that America is “ready to help,” claiming that Iran is moving toward freedom. As reports of deaths and injuries grow, fears of a U.S. strike on Iran have intensified. According to the BBC, hundreds of people have been killed or injured in clashes across multiple cities.

Iran Threatens to Target U.S. and Israeli Assets
Iran’s Speaker of Parliament issued a strong statement, saying that if the U.S. launches an attack, Iran will target American and Israeli military bases and shipping hubs across the region. Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, senior military commanders, and top officials have vowed to crush unrest and protect Iran’s ruling system at all costs.

President Masoud Padeshkian struck a dual tone, saying the government is willing to listen to public grievances. “We want to address the concerns of our people. That is our duty,” he said. “But our greater responsibility is to prevent rioters from destroying society. We will not allow anyone to set the country on fire.”

Internet Shutdown Amid Widening Unrest
Protests demanding the removal of the Khamenei-led government have continued for more than 15 days and now cover nearly the entire country. Violent clashes between protesters and security forces have resulted in over 500 deaths, according to independent estimates.

In an attempt to contain the unrest, the Iranian government has imposed a nationwide internet blackout. Despite the shutdown, authorities appear unable to fully control the protests. Statements from the United States and comments by Reza Pahlavi, son of Iran’s former Shah, are also believed to be fueling the demonstrations, further tightening pressure on Iran’s leadership.
