Tehran: Amid rising tensions between Iran and the United States, Iran has firmly reiterated that its relationship with India is “unbreakable” and cannot be harmed by external pressure. A senior Iranian official has underlined the strategic importance of the Chabahar Port, describing it as a cornerstone of India-Iran relations.
The statement comes at a time when speculation has intensified over the future of India’s investment in the Chabahar Port, as the U.S. sanctions waiver for the project is set to expire on April 26. If the exemption is not extended, Indian investments could face potential risks. India has already stated that it is in active dialogue with the United States to safeguard its strategic interests in Chabahar.
Chabahar a Pillar of Strategic Partnership
Salar Velayatmadar, a member of Iran’s National Security Commission, emphasized that Chabahar Port represents a mutually beneficial agreement finalized to protect the shared interests of both nations. Speaking to RT television, he said that no power could undermine the strong bonds between Iran and India.
Highlighting historical and civilizational ties, Velayatmadar noted that Iran and India share deep similarities in language, culture, and traditions. “Nothing can damage the strong and historic relationship between our two countries,” he asserted.
Criticism of U.S. Policies
The Iranian official strongly criticized U.S. President Donald Trump, accusing him of spreading instability across the world. “The condition of the world is not good. The actions of the U.S. president are far from dignified. He has created turmoil in many countries,” Velayatmadar said, adding that even friendly nations like India have been affected by such instability.
He also described India’s recent statements on protecting its investments in Chabahar as “rational,” stating that provocative actions by adversaries should not be allowed to impact long-term partnerships. “From our perspective, nothing has changed regarding Chabahar,” he added.
Protests in Iran and Rising U.S.-Iran Tensions
Addressing recent protests in Iran, Velayatmadar termed them a foreign conspiracy and claimed that security and normalcy have been fully restored in the country.
The remarks come against the backdrop of escalating rhetoric between Tehran and Washington. Iran has warned that any aggression against it would be met with severe retaliation, while President Trump has stated that any attempt on his life would result in Iran being “wiped off the face of the earth.”
Iran’s strong message on Chabahar signals its intent to insulate its strategic partnership with India from geopolitical pressures, underlining the port’s importance in regional connectivity and economic cooperation.
