Indian Prime Minister Extends Support for Khaleda Zia; BNP Expresses Gratitude

Dhaka: The main opposition in Bangladesh, the Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP), has expressed its gratitude to Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi after he extended his support for the health of BNP Chairperson Begum Khaleda Zia.

Earlier, Prime Minister Modi expressed concern over the deteriorating health of the former Bangladeshi Prime Minister and offered assistance. Khaleda Zia has been hospitalized since 23 November due to a severe lung infection, and her condition remains critical.

PM Modi Offers Assistance
In a post on social media platform X, PM Modi wrote, “I am deeply concerned to hear about the health of Begum Khaleda Zia, who has contributed significantly to public life in Bangladesh over many years. Our heartfelt prayers and best wishes are with her for a speedy recovery. India stands ready to provide any assistance needed.”

BNP Responds with Gratitude
Responding on its official account, the BNP thanked PM Modi for his thoughtful message and well-wishes. The party stated, “BNP sincerely appreciates the honorable Prime Minister of India, Narendra Modi, for his considerate message and wishes for the speedy recovery of BNP Chairperson Begum Khaleda Zia. We highly commend his gesture and willingness to offer assistance.”

Begum Khaleda Zia’s Critical Condition
Bangladesh’s first female Prime Minister remains in critical condition at the hospital. She was initially admitted due to a lung infection on 23 November, which later worsened. BNP officials have stated that she is currently on ventilation, under the supervision of a medical team that includes specialists from abroad.
