New York: India strongly condemned Pakistani airstrikes inside Afghanistan at the United Nations Security Council (UNSC), calling them a serious breach of Afghan sovereignty and international norms. India’s Permanent Representative to the UN, P. Harish Parvathineni, raised concerns over the civilian casualties, highlighting the deaths of innocent women, children, and three promising young cricketers—Kabir Aga, Sibgatullah, and Haroon.
Violation of Afghan Sovereignty
Addressing the Security Council, India emphasized that its developmental partnership with Afghanistan exceeds $3 billion, demonstrating New Delhi’s unwavering support for the Afghan people. The airstrikes, reportedly aimed at terrorist targets in Paktika province on 17 October 2025, instead claimed civilian lives and escalated tensions along the border. Parvathineni underlined that such acts of aggression undermine fragile ceasefire efforts and violate the principles of regional integrity, highlighting the importance of protecting civilians.
Pakistan Accused of ‘Trade Terrorism’
India also criticized Pakistan for blocking trade with landlocked Afghanistan, terming it a form of “trade terrorism” that further harms Afghan civilians. Parvathineni elaborated on India’s continued humanitarian support, noting ongoing projects including a 30-bed hospital in Bagram, an oncology center and trauma center in Kabul, and five maternity health clinics.
India’s Commitment to Peace and Development
India reiterated its commitment to peace, stability, and development in Afghanistan, urging all countries to respect Afghan sovereignty and avoid actions that endanger civilians. The UNSC session highlighted India’s proactive stance in supporting Afghan welfare while condemning unilateral military actions by Pakistan.
