Hindu Homes Set Ablaze in Chattogram, Bangladesh; Taslima Nasreen Blames Mohammad Yunus

Dhaka: Violence against Hindus in Bangladesh continues to escalate, with several homes in Chattogram deliberately set on fire last week following the murder of a local laborer, Deepu Chandra Das. Victims report that attackers forcibly locked the homes from outside before igniting them, a move seemingly intended to trap and harm residents. Fortunately, most houses were made of temporary materials, allowing residents to escape, though their belongings, savings, and livelihoods were destroyed.

Targeted Attack on Minority Communities

According to local sources and affected families, the attacks were premeditated, aiming to intimidate the Hindu minority and force them to flee the area. The mob, reportedly composed of radical Islamic elements, used petrol to set the homes ablaze after securing the doors from the outside. Entire houses were reduced to ashes, and displaced families are now seeking temporary shelter elsewhere.

Taslima Nasreen Speaks Out

Renowned author Taslima Nasreen condemned the attacks and held Bangladesh’s interim leader Mohammad Yunus responsible. Sharing videos of the burning homes on social media, she wrote:

“In Raozan, Chattogram, cruel Muslims locked Hindu homes from outside and set them on fire. Houses have turned to ashes. Hindus barely escaped with their lives. On what hope will they rebuild their homes? Will Yunus act against these anti-Hindu extremists? Will he provide compensation or ignore it because the news did not spread abroad? Will he let Hindus die in the flames?”

Criticism of Mohammad Yunus

Victims allege that Yunus has ignored repeated attacks against Hindus. Following the fall of Sheikh Hasina’s government last year, radical Islamic extremists released from jail have reportedly been targeting Hindu communities across the country. Families now face the daunting challenge of rebuilding their homes and livelihoods in a climate of fear and insecurity.
