WASHINGTON/ISLAMABAD: The United States has welcomed Pakistan’s potential role in the proposed international stabilization force for Gaza under President Donald Trump’s 20-point peace plan. The plan calls for the deployment of troops from Muslim-majority countries to oversee a transitional period in the war-torn Palestinian territory.
U.S. Commends Pakistan’s Proposal
U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio expressed appreciation for Pakistan’s willingness to consider contributing to the international force. Speaking at a press conference, Rubio said, “We are very grateful to Pakistan for offering—or at least considering—being part of this effort to bring stability to Gaza.” While Pakistan has not yet committed troops, it has welcomed the proposal and stated that it is reviewing the details.
Early Stage Discussions Underway
Rubio added that discussions with Pakistan and other potential troop-contributing nations are in the early stages. Many countries want clarity on operational mandates and funding mechanisms before committing forces. “If Pakistan agrees, it would be a significant contribution, but there are still several questions that need to be addressed before deployment,” he said.
Pakistan’s Foreign Ministry confirmed that no final decision has been made regarding troop deployment. Ministry spokesperson Tahir Hussain Andrabi said during a weekly media briefing, “We are still evaluating the country’s potential participation in the International Stabilization Force (ISF) in Gaza.”
Speculations on Munir-Trump Meeting
There have been media speculations that Pakistan’s Chief of Defence Staff and Army Chief, Field Marshal Asim Munir, might visit Washington to discuss the Gaza Stabilization Force with President Trump. However, Andrabi dismissed the claims, stating that any such visit would depend on an official announcement from the Pakistani government. The White House also confirmed that no meeting between Munir and Trump is currently scheduled.
The development underscores Pakistan’s potential role in regional peace efforts and highlights the U.S.’s encouragement for Islamabad’s participation in stabilizing Gaza.
