Former Bangladesh PM Khaleda Zia’s Condition Still Critical; Nation Prays for Her Recovery

Dhaka: Former Bangladesh Prime Minister Begum Khaleda Zia continues to remain in a critical and fragile medical condition, a day after she was admitted to Evercare Hospital in Dhaka. Senior leaders of the Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) confirmed that a special medical team is closely monitoring her health round the clock, while prayers are being offered across the country for her swift recovery.

According to BNP officials, Nobel laureate and Chief Adviser Dr. Muhammad Yunus had sent his legal adviser Asif Nazrul and special aide Monir Haider to the hospital on Friday night to review the condition of the BNP chairperson. After returning, Nazrul wrote in a late-night Facebook post around 1 a.m., “I visited Evercare Hospital and have just returned. Begum Khaleda Zia’s physical condition is not good at all. Please pray for her recovery.”

Yunus’ Representatives Meet Doctors

BNP’s media cell member Sairul Kabir Khan stated that Nazrul and Haider spoke to the doctors overseeing her treatment as well as to BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir for detailed updates.

Khaleda Zia, aged 80, was admitted to Evercare Hospital on the night of 23 November following the recommendation of her medical board. Reports indicate she has been suffering from severe heart and lung infections, along with pneumonia, and is currently being treated in the Coronary Care Unit (CCU) under the supervision of both local and foreign specialists.

Medical Board Raises Serious Concerns

Professor Dr. F.M. Siddiqui, a member of her medical board, said the BNP chief already had several pre-existing cardiac complications, including a permanent pacemaker and previous stenting procedures.
He added that she suffers from mitral stenosis, a condition that restricts blood flow in the heart. The recent chest infection has simultaneously affected both her heart and lungs, causing severe breathing difficulties.

Multiple Chronic Illnesses Add to Complexity

Hospital sources revealed that soon after admission, multiple diagnostic tests were conducted. Khaleda Zia has long been battling various health issues such as arthritis, diabetes, kidney complications, and chronic pulmonary problems.
She had earlier travelled to London on 7 January for medical treatment and returned home on 6 May after spending 117 days abroad.

Nation Awaits Positive News

As the former prime minister fights multiple life-threatening conditions, the BNP leadership and millions of supporters continue to pray fervently for her recovery. Doctors have said that while intensive efforts are ongoing, her situation remains highly concerning.
