Donald Trump Warns Republicans Amid Fear of Impeachment Following Venezuela Operation

U.S. President Donald Trump is reportedly feeling the heat over his position after ordering a major military operation in Venezuela, which resulted in the capture of President Nicolás Maduro and First Lady Cilia Flores. Trump has warned Republican lawmakers that failure to secure victory in the upcoming midterm elections could trigger impeachment proceedings against him.

In a meeting with Republican members of the House of Representatives in Washington on Tuesday, Trump stated, “You must win the midterm elections. If you do not, they will find a reason to impeach me.” This marks the third time Trump faces the threat of impeachment; previous attempts by the opposition were unsuccessful.

Impact of Midterm Losses
The U.S. midterm elections are scheduled for November 2026. While Trump would remain president even if the Republican Party loses, a weakened position in Congress could hinder his ability to implement major reforms. All 435 seats in the House of Representatives and one-third of the 100 Senate seats will be contested. Currently, Republicans hold a slim Senate majority with 53 seats, while Democrats have 45 seats, along with two independents.

Calls for Impeachment Intensify
Following the Venezuela operation and the arrest of Maduro, calls for Trump’s impeachment have gained momentum. Democratic lawmakers have criticized the president for allegedly abusing executive powers during the military intervention. Maryland Congresswoman April McClain Delaney urged the Democratic Party to consider initiating impeachment proceedings promptly. Similarly, California State Senator Scott Wiener, contesting Nancy Pelosi’s congressional seat, has also demanded Trump be impeached.

The situation highlights the growing political tension in the United States as the 2026 midterm elections approach, with Trump leveraging his party’s performance to secure his position amid mounting criticism.
