Donald Trump to Visit India Next Year! Praises PM Modi Amid Trade Talks

Washington.
In a major diplomatic signal, U.S. President Donald Trump has announced that he may visit India next year, while showering praise on Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
Speaking to reporters at the Oval Office, Trump described Modi as “a great man and a true friend” and emphasized his commitment to strengthening Indo–U.S. relations.

Trump said —

“He (Modi) has almost stopped buying from Russia. He’s my friend and we talk regularly. He wants me to come to India… and I will. Prime Minister Modi is a great man.”

When asked directly whether he would visit India next year, Trump replied briefly —

“Yes, that’s possible.”

🔹 Trade Ties Enter a New Phase

Trump’s remarks come at a time when trade negotiations between India and the United States have entered a crucial new phase.
Recently, the U.S. imposed a 50% tariff on Indian imports, including an additional 25% duty on Russian crude oil, citing energy policy concerns.
However, the White House has since softened its stance, signalling a renewed push to rebuild bilateral trade relations.

White House Press Secretary Caroline Leavitt stated —

“President Trump sees India as a key strategic partner for the United States and is committed to taking the relationship to new heights.”

🔹 From Skipping QUAD to Renewed Warmth

Trump’s statement on a potential India visit is significant, especially after reports in The New York Times suggested that he had skipped the QUAD Summit earlier this year following tariff disputes with India.
Now, his latest remarks indicate that Washington and New Delhi are once again finding common ground on trade, defence, and energy cooperation.

Diplomatic analysts believe that Trump’s outreach to Modi marks the revival of warmth in U.S.–India ties, with both nations seeking to balance economic interests and regional security amid rising global tensions.
