Donald Trump Reiterates Claim of Halting India-Pakistan Conflict at Davos

Davos: U.S. President Donald Trump has once again claimed that he played a role in halting hostilities between India and Pakistan. Speaking at the World Economic Forum (WEF) in Davos, Trump stated that during his second term, he has prevented eight wars, including a military conflict between the two South Asian nations.

Addressing the audience, Trump said that last year, in May, he helped stop a potential India-Pakistan conflict. He added that U.S.-mediated talks led both sides to agree to an immediate and complete cessation of military operations. Trump also emphasized America’s strategic interest in Greenland, describing it as “a massive ice sheet” crucial not for its mineral wealth but for its geopolitical position between the U.S., China, and Russia.

Trump’s Davos Address Highlights
Opening his speech to a packed auditorium, Trump greeted attendees as “many friends” and “some enemies,” while taking aim at Europe, NATO, clean energy advocates, and former U.S. presidents, including a jibe at “sleepy” Joe Biden.

Repeated Claims on India-Pakistan Conflict
Since May 10, 2025, Trump has repeatedly (over 80 times) claimed credit for stopping the India-Pakistan military confrontation. He insists that U.S.-facilitated negotiations led both countries to agree to halt hostilities. However, India has consistently denied any third-party intervention, maintaining that the agreement came from direct dialogue between the military chiefs of both nations.

Background: May 2025 India-Pakistan Clash
The conflict began on the night of May 6-7, 2025, when India launched Operation Sindoor, targeting terrorist infrastructures in Pakistan and Pakistan-occupied Kashmir (PoK). This was in retaliation for the Pahalgam attack on April 22, which killed 26 civilians.

After four days of cross-border drone and missile exchanges, India and Pakistan reached an agreement on May 10 to cease hostilities. India maintains that the resolution was achieved through direct discussions between the respective Directors General of Military Operations (DGMO).
