Tehran/Washington: Tensions between the U.S. and Iran escalated as Iranian state television issued a direct threat to former U.S. President Donald Trump. The broadcast included images from a previous assassination attempt on Trump, emphasizing that “this time, the target won’t miss.”
The video, aired on Iranian government channels, used footage from July 2024, when a gunman opened fire during Trump’s election campaign rally in Pennsylvania. In that attack, the bullet grazed Trump’s ear, narrowly missing him. AFP reported that the clip was explicitly presented as a warning against Trump.
Strongest Threat Yet from Tehran
This represents the most direct and public threat to Trump from Iranian authorities to date. The warning comes amid reports that Trump is considering military action against Iran, prompting Tehran to caution Washington against any aggressive measures.
Background: Pennsylvania Attack
During the Pennsylvania rally, a gunman fired at Trump, narrowly missing him. Iranian state TV later used images from that incident in a threatening broadcast. Previously, Ali Larijani, head of Iran’s Supreme National Security Council, had referred to Trump as a “murderer of Iranians.”
Escalating U.S.-Iran Tensions
On Tuesday, Trump stated in an interview that the U.S. would respond strongly if Iran took action against protesters. He specifically referenced Iran’s plans for executions and warned of “severe consequences.” Meanwhile, reports indicate increased U.S. troop movement from its largest Middle Eastern base in Qatar. Concerns are mounting that any U.S. strike could trigger retaliatory action from Iran, which had previously attacked Qatar’s Al Udeid Air Base in June 2025.
