Islamabad: Separatist militant group Baloch Liberation Army (BLA) has claimed responsibility for a deadly attack on the Pakistani Army in the restive Balochistan province, alleging that 12 soldiers were killed and six others injured during intense clashes.
According to a statement issued by BLA spokesperson Jeeyand Baloch, the confrontation took place in the Panjgur district, where BLA fighters targeted Pakistani military personnel in what they described as a coordinated ambush. The clash reportedly began around 1:00 pm on Saturday and continued for nearly seven hours, ending around 8:00 pm.
The spokesperson claimed that the Pakistani Army’s so-called “death squad” was attacked when it attempted to advance in large numbers toward the Sorap area. He further alleged that additional army reinforcements entered the region using armored vehicles and transport carriers, but were forced to retreat after being engaged by another BLA unit. During the fighting, one military vehicle was reportedly destroyed, and significant damage was inflicted on army personnel.
Jeeyand Baloch described the attack as part of the group’s ongoing armed struggle for Baloch independence, warning that the BLA would continue to target Pakistani military forces. He asserted that the group would carry out more lethal attacks in the future and vowed that the Pakistani Army would face “failure and defeat on every front.”
BLF Also Claims Attack
Meanwhile, another Baloch separatist group, the Balochistan Liberation Front (BLF), has also claimed responsibility for a separate attack on a Pakistani military camp. BLF spokesperson Major Gwahram Baloch stated that the group’s fighters fired grenade launchers at an army camp in the Balichah area of Tump on Saturday.
According to the BLF, the attack was precise and occurred while a meeting was underway inside the camp, allegedly being chaired by senior military officers. The spokesperson issued a warning that anyone assisting the Pakistani Army would be held responsible for any loss of life or property.
Balochistan has witnessed a prolonged insurgency, with separatist groups repeatedly accusing the Pakistani state of exploitation, enforced disappearances, and human rights violations—claims that Islamabad has consistently denied.
