China Launches Propaganda to Sell J-10C and JF-17 Fighters, Codenamed “Operation Sindoor”

Beijing is intensifying efforts to market its fighter jets internationally, but despite its push, Pakistan remains the only confirmed buyer so far. Now, China is attempting to boost sales by spreading propaganda against India.

Targeting the Global Market

China aims to strengthen its position as a global arms supplier and is actively targeting the South Asian market. The country recently showcased some of its most advanced fighter aircraft, including the J-10C and the fifth-generation stealth fighter J-35A, at the prestigious Singapore Airshow, held biennially and considered Asia’s premier aviation event.

Using Regional Conflicts for Promotion

China is promoting the J-10C as a “combat-tested” fighter by referencing the India-Pakistan military clashes in May last year. Pakistan, a user of the J-10C, claimed it deployed the aircraft during Operation Sindoor against India. Beijing is leveraging this claim to market the jet as battle-proven.

Limited Success in Finding Buyers

Despite aggressive promotion, China has seen limited success in selling the J-10C. Pakistan remains the jet’s only confirmed buyer. Talks with countries such as Brazil, Egypt, Indonesia, Colombia, and Iran have not yet resulted in confirmed orders. Meanwhile, China also showcased the J-35A at the airshow to attract potential buyers.

JF-17 Also on Display

In addition, China displayed the JF-17, co-developed with Pakistan. Pakistan reportedly received recent inquiries for this fighter from countries including Iraq, Bangladesh, Indonesia, Saudi Arabia, and Libya. During the May clash with India, Pakistan claimed to have used the JF-17 to shoot down Indian Rafale jets—a claim amplified by Chinese propaganda, though it was later discredited.

Aggressive Propaganda to Boost Sales

China continues to highlight the J-10C and JF-17’s purported performance in May, targeting Southeast Asia and the Middle East. It emphasizes faster delivery timelines and fewer conditions compared to American military hardware to attract new buyers.
