Assassination Plot Against Khamenei

Tehran: Iran’s Intelligence Ministry has issued a grave warning, claiming that a plot is being hatched to assassinate Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei and destabilize the country. Intelligence Minister Esmail Khatib has directly accused the United States and Israel of orchestrating the conspiracy, adding a new layer of tension to an already volatile geopolitical situation.

According to Iran’s ISNA news agency, Khatib stated on Saturday that “enemy states” are working to target the Supreme Leader and launch attacks inside Tehran. He noted that this is not the first time foreign powers have been accused of attempting to undermine Iran’s leadership, as Tehran has repeatedly pointed fingers at Washington and Tel Aviv for similar plots over the years.

Past Attempts and Growing Fear

In June this year, during the military confrontation between Israel and Iran, reports circulated claiming Khamenei was on Israel’s target list. Social media even erupted with false rumours of his death, forcing the Supreme Leader to make a public appearance to quash speculation.

Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian has also expressed concern regarding Khamenei’s safety. Just months ago, Khamenei himself said that Israel’s objective behind escalating attacks was to spread unrest, push citizens onto the streets, and overthrow the system—an attempt that, he said, ultimately failed.

A Strategy to Destabilize Iran?

Khatib warned that anyone knowingly or unknowingly aiding these foreign agendas would be treated as agents of the enemy. He accused the U.S. and Israel of working to create political turmoil in Iran and destabilize the leadership in Tehran.

He added that the goal of these nations is not only the assassination of the Supreme Leader but also a broader mission to weaken Iran’s governance structure.

Long-Standing Hostility

At 86, Ayatollah Khamenei has been Iran’s Supreme Leader since 1989, wielding ultimate authority over all state matters. His firm grip on power makes regime change extremely difficult, fueling allegations that foreign adversaries see assassination as the only path to destabilizing Iran.

The hostility between Iran, Israel, and the U.S. has intensified due to Tehran’s nuclear program. In June, Israel and the United States launched heavy strikes targeting Iran’s nuclear facilities. Although a ceasefire between Israel and Iran has been in place since June 24, tensions remain high.
