Islamabad / Bahawalpur: Pakistan’s Chief of Army Staff, General Asim Munir, conducted a military drone test near the India-Pakistan border in Bahawalpur, approximately 70–80 kilometers from the frontier. The visit is significant as Bahawalpur was the site of one of India’s deadliest strikes during Operation Sindoor, when the Indian Army carried out a major attack near Ahmedpur Sharqia, reportedly targeting a mosque compound and eliminating at least five militants.
During the visit, General Munir inspected the Bahawalpur Garrison, receiving briefings on operational, training, and administrative matters, with a particular focus on multi-domain warfare preparedness. The Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR) reported that he also reviewed a high-intensity field exercise, “Steadfast Resolve,” conducted in Khairpur Tamewali. The exercise demonstrated the integrated use of unmanned aerial systems, advanced surveillance, electronic warfare equipment, and modern command-and-control systems.
General Munir praised the professionalism and operational readiness of Pakistani forces, emphasizing their commitment to safeguarding the country’s sovereignty and territorial integrity against all threats. He addressed military officers, highlighting that technological advancements are transforming modern warfare. Future conflicts, he said, will rely less on conventional physical operations and more on advanced technological maneuvers, fundamentally altering both offensive and defensive military strategies.
Operation Sindoor, in which India struck nine locations across Punjab, reportedly resulted in over 100 militants being neutralized. Bahawalpur remains etched in memory as the site of the most intense attack during the operation, underscoring the strategic significance of Munir’s recent visit and drone demonstration.
