Another Tragic Incident in Bangladesh: 7-Year-Old Ayesha Killed by Mob Violence Following Dipu Das Case

DHAKA: Violence that erupted in Bangladesh after the death of student leader Sharif Usman Hadi on Thursday continues unabated, putting both citizens and officials at risk. The unrest has thrown normal life into chaos across multiple cities, including the capital, Dhaka.

In a horrifying development, the daughter of BNP leader Bilal Hussain, 7-year-old Ayesha Akhtar, was killed in a fire set by a violent mob that attacked his residence in Lakshmipur. While attacks in recent days had primarily targeted Awami League leaders, this incident marked a tragic shift.

Mob Sets House on Fire

According to reports from The Daily Star and Dhaka Tribune, a mob attacked Bilal Hussain’s home on Saturday morning. After vandalizing the property, the assailants set the house on fire. Ayesha Akhtar died from severe burns, while her two sisters, 16-year-old Salma Akhtar and 14-year-old Samia Akhtar, were critically injured and admitted to the Burn Unit at Dhaka Medical College Hospital. Their condition remains serious, and doctors continue to provide intensive treatment.

Lakshmipur Sadar Model Police Station In-Charge Mohammed Wahid Parvez confirmed that the mob blocked the house doors from outside, doused the interior with petrol, and set it ablaze. Fire services recovered the body of Ayesha and rescued three other family members suffering burn injuries.

Escalating Violence Across Bangladesh

The unrest began after Sharif Usman Hadi’s death, triggering widespread violence in Dhaka and other cities. Earlier incidents included the mob lynching of Hindu youth Dipu Das, whose body was brutally tied to a tree and burned. The latest attacks on children and families reflect the alarming escalation of mob violence across the country.

Authorities remain on high alert as the situation continues to unfold, with both public safety and political tensions under severe strain.
