Do you want to send your name to the Moon? If yes, NASA is offering a free opportunity to do so, and the registration deadline is 21 January 2026. The process is simple, free, and open to participants worldwide. Here’s a detailed guide on how to register.
About NASA’s Special Campaign
NASA has launched the “Send Your Name with Artemis II” campaign, allowing people to submit their names online to be carried to the Moon. Your name will be stored on an SD card that will travel aboard the Orion spacecraft during the Artemis II mission. This is not the first time NASA has conducted such campaigns—names have previously been sent to Mars, the Sun, and Jupiter’s moon Europa.
How to Send Your Name to the Moon
To register your name:
- Search for NASA Artemis II on Google or visit the official NASA link.
- Click on Sign Up on the webpage.
- Enter your details, including your full name and postal code.
- Once registered, NASA will issue you a boarding pass—a symbolic confirmation that your name is on its way to the Moon.
Who Will Be Part of the Lunar Journey?
The Artemis II mission will carry four astronauts: Reid Wiseman, Victor Glover, Christina Koch from NASA, and Jeremy Hansen from the Canadian Space Agency. They will travel aboard the Orion capsule, launched by NASA’s Space Launch System (SLS). The mission will help test critical systems required for future Moon landings and is considered a key step in returning humans to the lunar surface.
Launch Preparations and Future Plans
NASA has begun preparations at the Kennedy Space Center. Reports indicate that the mission could launch in April 2026. The SLS rocket takes nearly a decade to build, and following the successful Artemis I mission in 2022—which completed an uncrewed lunar orbit—Artemis II will carry astronauts around the Moon. If successful, Artemis III in 2027 could land astronauts on the Moon’s surface, marking a major milestone in the United States’ renewed lunar exploration program.
