Samsung, Vivo, or Oppo: Which Smartphones Stay “New” the Longest with Software Updates?

When buying a smartphone, most users focus on features like camera, display, and battery life—but often overlook a crucial factor: software and security updates. Keeping your phone up to date is vital to protect against malware attacks and cyber fraud. Among India’s top smartphone brands—Samsung, Vivo, and Oppo—Samsung leads in providing long-term software support, keeping devices “new” for years.

Why Software Updates Matter
Experts recommend choosing a phone that receives at least five years of software and security updates. Without regular updates, devices are more vulnerable to hacking, cybercrime, and performance issues.

Vivo Smartphones
Vivo, India’s largest smartphone brand according to Counterpoint and IDC, offers mid-range to premium devices. The Vivo X300 series receives five years of Android OS updates and seven years of security patches. The V series offers five years of security updates, while the budget Y series gets 1–2 years of OS updates and three years of security patches. Vivo’s offline market presence and after-sales service are strong, but software support varies significantly across price segments.

Oppo Smartphones
Oppo, India’s second-largest smartphone brand, provides long-term updates primarily for premium devices. For example, the Oppo Find X9 Pro and Oppo Reno 15 series receive five years of software updates and six years of security patches. Budget models, such as the OPPO A6x, are limited to two major OS updates and three years of security patches.

Samsung Smartphones
Samsung stands out among global and Indian brands for consistent long-term software support, even for budget devices. The Galaxy S25 Ultra receives seven years of Android and security updates, while mid-premium devices like the Galaxy A36 5G and Galaxy A07 5G are supported for six years. Even budget models like the Galaxy F07, priced around ₹8,500, enjoy six years of updates, ensuring longevity and security.

Verdict: Samsung Leads
While Vivo and Oppo provide extended updates for premium devices, Samsung offers long-term software and security updates across all price segments, including budget smartphones. This makes Samsung phones the best choice for users who want devices that stay secure, functional, and “new” for years.
