Redmi Pad 2 Pro 5G Review: After 27 Days of Use, Display and Battery Impress, Some Features Feel Average

If you are planning to buy a new tablet, chances are your priorities are clear: a sharp display, long battery life, and reliable performance—without paying a premium price. In the ₹25,000–₹30,000 segment, there are several options available, and the newly launched Redmi Pad 2 Pro 5G is one of the most talked-about contenders. I used this tablet for 27 days as my primary device. Here is a detailed, newspaper-style review highlighting its strengths and shortcomings to help you decide whether it suits your needs.

Price and Variants

The Wi-Fi variant of the Redmi Pad 2 Pro is priced at ₹24,999, while the 5G model starts at ₹27,999. The 5G version is particularly useful for users who do not have access to home broadband and rely heavily on mobile data.

Design: Premium but Heavy

The tablet features an aluminium alloy back, giving it a solid and premium feel. The patterned camera module adds a distinct design touch, while the power and volume buttons are placed conveniently on the side. It also comes with a quad-speaker setup.

Overall, the design feels durable and well-built, but the tablet weighs over 600 grams. Due to its weight, prolonged handheld use—especially while lying down—can cause discomfort. That said, Redmi deserves credit for keeping the device slim at just 7.5 mm, despite packing a massive 12,000 mAh battery.

Display: A Clear Winner

Display quality is one of the biggest highlights of the Redmi Pad 2 Pro 5G. It sports a 12.1-inch 2.5K display with a resolution of 2560×1600 pixels and a smooth 120Hz refresh rate. The colours are well-balanced, contrast levels are pleasing, and content does not strain the eyes.

With a peak brightness of 600 nits, the display performs well indoors. Outdoor visibility under direct sunlight is average, but tablets are rarely used extensively outdoors. The TÜV Rheinland eye-protection filter and wet-touch technology further enhance the user experience.

Watching movies and series on streaming platforms was enjoyable, aided by rich colours and loud, clear speakers. Dolby Atmos support ensures immersive audio, and the inclusion of a 3.5 mm headphone jack will be appreciated by users who still prefer wired headphones.

Performance: Strong for the Price

The tablet is powered by the Snapdragon 7s Gen 4 chipset, built on a 4nm process, paired with Adreno 810 GPU and 8GB RAM. Storage options include 128GB and 256GB, using UFS 2.2 technology. While the storage speed is average, support for microSD cards up to 2TB is a major plus.

In day-to-day usage, multitasking, video streaming, and even moderate gaming, the tablet performs smoothly. While it is not designed as a hardcore gaming tablet, it handles most tasks comfortably within its price segment.

The device runs on Android-based HyperOS 2. Users familiar with Redmi or Xiaomi phones will find the interface easy to navigate. However, the software experience could be better optimized for tablet use, with more productivity-focused layouts and shortcuts.

Battery: Excellent Endurance

Battery life is another standout feature. The 12,000 mAh battery easily lasted two full days with heavy usage, and even longer with moderate use. The tablet supports 33W fast charging, and the charger is included in the box. While charging speeds are decent, faster charging—around 45W—would have been more competitive.

An added bonus is 27W reverse charging, allowing the tablet to double as a power bank for other devices.

Cameras: Just Average

As expected from most tablets, the cameras are not designed for photography enthusiasts. The 13MP rear camera and 8MP front camera are adequate for online classes, video calls, and meetings. Image quality is average, and users looking for high-quality photos will still rely on smartphones.

Final Verdict

The Redmi Pad 2 Pro 5G is a well-rounded tablet that delivers excellent value for money in the mid-range segment.

What works well

  • Premium build quality
  • Large, sharp display
  • Long-lasting battery
  • Strong overall performance

Where it feels average

  • Camera quality
  • Software optimization for tablets
  • Charging speed

If your priority is media consumption, productivity, and long battery life, the Redmi Pad 2 Pro 5G is a solid choice. However, users focused on photography or ultra-fast charging may want to explore other options before making a final decision.
