Amid growing concerns over the potential disruption in the job market due to artificial intelligence (AI), Prime Minister Narendra Modi has emphasized that preparation is the key to overcoming fear. In an exclusive interview with news agency ANI, PM Modi expressed confidence that with the right skills and preparation, India’s youth will lead the future of work.
AI as a “Force Multiplier”
Speaking during the India AI Impact Summit 2026, PM Modi described AI as a “force multiplier” capable of expanding the boundaries of possibility. He explained that AI will help professionals such as doctors, lawyers, and teachers reach and assist a much larger population than ever before.
“History shows that technology does not eliminate jobs; it transforms them. New types of employment are created, and some roles are redefined. Digital transformation will also bring new tech-driven jobs to India’s economy,” PM Modi said. He added that while there is often fear that innovation and technological revolutions will reduce employment, history demonstrates that innovation always generates new opportunities.
Preparing Youth for the Future
PM Modi stressed that India is investing in skill development and reskilling to ensure that its workforce is ready for the AI era. “With the right skills and preparation, our youth will lead the future of work,” he said.
India Ready for AI-Driven Change
The Prime Minister highlighted India’s strong positioning in the global AI landscape, citing the Stanford Global AI Vibrancy Index 2025, in which India ranked third. He noted that India’s growth in AI research, development, talent, and economy demonstrates the country’s readiness to adapt to technological change.
AI to Enhance Human Talent and Inclusion
PM Modi called AI a tool for civilizational transformation, capable of enhancing human talent in ways previously unimaginable. The India AI Impact Summit aims to highlight meaningful and positive aspects of AI. The Prime Minister stressed that technology should serve humanity, promoting welfare and happiness for all.
AI Supporting India’s Journey to 2047
Looking ahead, PM Modi said AI will play a crucial role in India’s journey toward becoming a developed nation by 2047. AI will create new opportunities across sectors such as healthcare and education. For instance, AI-based models are already being used to detect diseases like tuberculosis early, while in education, students in rural government schools are benefitting from AI-enabled learning tools.
