Pakistan Launches ‘Qalb’ AI: The World’s Largest Urdu Language Model, Creating Buzz in Tech Circles

Pakistan has unveiled Qalb, the largest Urdu-language AI chatbot, designed to rival ChatGPT in its capabilities. Developed by Pakistani student Taimoor Hassan while studying in the United States, Qalb has quickly become a topic of discussion in the global tech community.

What Makes Qalb AI Special?
Qalb AI was trained on a massive dataset of 1.97 billion tokens and tested against more than seven international benchmarks. According to reports, it outperformed previous Urdu AI models by 3.24 points, achieving a score of 90.34 on Urdu benchmarks. The AI is designed for a variety of applications including business tools, educational platforms, startups, and voice-controlled AI agents.

Hassan built Qalb with the help of his college roommates Jawad Ahmed and Muhammad Awais, emphasizing that AI development is no longer limited to big budgets or large teams. “With the right mindset, a small team can create products that educate millions, automate tasks, and deliver excellent services,” he explained.

Who Is Taimoor Hassan?
Taimoor Hassan is not only a student but also a seasoned young entrepreneur. He has founded and exited 13 startups, previously won the Microsoft Cup, and completed his undergraduate degree in computer science at FAST University. He is currently pursuing his Master’s at Auburn University.

How Does Qalb Compare to ChatGPT?
While ChatGPT supports over 80 languages, including Urdu, it is trained on primarily Western datasets and is not specialized for Urdu. Qalb, on the other hand, is specifically tailored for Urdu-speaking users and regions. This focus makes it particularly valuable for Pakistan and other Urdu-speaking markets, although on a global scale, ChatGPT remains ahead due to its broader datasets and multilingual capabilities.

In short, Qalb AI represents a milestone for Urdu-language AI, demonstrating how localized, language-specific AI models can complement global systems like ChatGPT while serving unique regional needs.
