Motorola Launches Signature Smartphone in India at ₹59,999: 2 Reasons to Buy, 5 Reasons to Think Twice

Motorola has officially launched its first Signature smartphone in India, with a starting price of ₹59,999. While the device boasts impressive features like its display and camera, there are areas such as the processor and battery where improvements could have been made.

The Motorola Signature comes equipped with several highlighted features, particularly a 50-megapixel camera and a high-quality display. The phone runs on the Snapdragon 8 Gen 5 processor, which is also used in the OnePlus 15R, priced at ₹44,999. Additionally, the design of the Signature does not stand out significantly, making it less distinctive in a crowded market.

Here’s a closer look at why you might consider buying—or skipping—this device.

2 Reasons to Buy the Motorola Signature

1. Display
The smartphone features a 6.8-inch 1.5K AMOLED display with a 165Hz refresh rate and peak brightness of 6200 nits. It comes protected by Corning Gorilla Glass Victus 2 and supports Dolby Vision. The LPT0 Extreme AMOLED panel promises excellent visual quality for users.

2. Camera
Camera capabilities are another highlight. On the back, the phone has a 50MP Sony LYT-828 main sensor, a 50MP ultrawide autofocus camera with a 122-degree field of view, and a 50MP telephoto lens offering up to 100x zoom. The front camera is also 50MP with a Sony sensor. Overall, the device offers strong photography and videography performance.

5 Reasons to Reconsider

1. Processor
The phone is powered by the Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Gen 5 chipset, which does not fully justify its premium price. The same processor is available in the OnePlus 15R at ₹44,999. Using a Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 2 or a flagship MediaTek processor could have made the device more competitive.

2. Battery
It comes with a 5200mAh battery, supporting 90W TurboPower charging, wireless charging, and reverse charging. However, competitors like the OnePlus 15 series, iQOO 15 series, and Realme GT 8 series offer 7000mAh batteries, making the Signature’s battery capacity feel limited.

3. Design
The design is uninspiring and does not offer a unique identity in the premium segment. Despite its premium price, the device looks similar to other Motorola phones.

4. Price
The 12GB + 256GB model is priced at ₹59,999, 16GB + 512GB at ₹64,999, and 16GB + 1TB at ₹69,999. Many consider these prices to be ₹10,000 higher than expected. A starting price of ₹49,999 could have made the Signature more competitive against alternatives from Samsung and Apple.

5. Brand Perception
While brands like Samsung and Vivo dominate the premium segment, other Android manufacturers often struggle. Users prefer investing in brands that enhance their image, and Motorola may face challenges in positioning the Signature in the mid-to-premium category.

Motorola’s Razor series has performed well, particularly with flip smartphones competing with Samsung at lower prices. However, the Signature may face hurdles in gaining traction due to price and brand perception, especially in the premium smartphone market where Apple and Samsung dominate.
