Motorola Launches ‘Signature’ Smartphone at ₹59,999: Two Reasons to Buy, Five Reasons to Skip

Motorola has officially entered the ultra-premium smartphone segment in India with the launch of its first Signature smartphone. Priced starting at ₹59,999, the device positions itself as a design-centric and camera-focused offering. However, despite impressive display and camera specifications, the phone struggles to justify its pricing in a fiercely competitive premium market dominated by Apple and Samsung.

Why You Might Consider Buying Motorola Signature

Stunning Display
The Motorola Signature features a large 6.8-inch LTPO Extreme AMOLED display with 1.5K resolution and a 165Hz refresh rate. With a peak brightness of up to 6200 nits, Dolby Vision support, and Corning Gorilla Glass Victus 2 protection, the screen delivers an excellent viewing experience, making it one of the phone’s strongest highlights.

Versatile Camera Setup
Photography is another area where the Signature shines. The smartphone houses a 50MP Sony LYT-828 main sensor, accompanied by a 50MP ultra-wide camera with autofocus and a 122-degree field of view. It also includes a 50MP telephoto lens capable of up to 100x digital zoom. On the front, users get a 50MP Sony sensor for selfies. Overall, the camera system is well-rounded and suitable for photography enthusiasts.

Why You May Want to Think Twice

Processor Choice Raises Questions
The device is powered by the Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Gen 5 chipset, which is undoubtedly capable but feels underwhelming for a phone priced close to ₹60,000. The same processor is available in significantly cheaper devices such as the OnePlus 15R, priced at ₹44,999, making Motorola’s pricing hard to justify.

Average Battery Capacity
Motorola Signature packs a 5200mAh battery with 90W fast charging, along with wireless and reverse charging support. However, in an era where competitors are offering batteries upwards of 7000mAh in flagship models, the battery capacity feels conservative for a premium device.

Uninspired Design
Despite being branded as a ‘Signature’ phone, the design fails to stand out. Visually, it closely resembles other Motorola smartphones and lacks a distinctive identity that one would expect at this price point.

Aggressive Pricing
The pricing structure further weakens the phone’s appeal. The 12GB RAM + 256GB storage variant is priced at ₹59,999, while the 16GB + 512GB and 16GB + 1TB variants cost ₹64,999 and ₹69,999 respectively. Each variant feels overpriced by nearly ₹10,000 when compared to competitors.

Brand Perception in Premium Segment
While Motorola enjoys strong brand recall in the mid-range and foldable segments—especially with its Razr series—it faces challenges in the premium slab. Indian consumers spending above ₹60,000 often gravitate towards Apple and Samsung, brands perceived as status symbols. Market data from firms like IDC and Comscore consistently show Apple and Samsung dominating the premium smartphone segment in India.

Verdict

Motorola Signature delivers where it matters most—display and camera—but falters in pricing, processor value, and brand perception. Unless Motorola repositions the phone more aggressively on price, the Signature may struggle to create a strong impact in the premium smartphone market.
