The Unique Identification Authority of India (UIDAI) is set to enhance its Aadhaar AI Mitra chatbot with new features aimed at preventing fraud and providing assistance in multiple Indian languages. Soon, the AI chatbot will not only converse in Hindi and English but will also support several regional languages, making it easier for millions of Aadhaar users to access services safely.
What is Aadhaar AI Mitra?
The Aadhaar AI Mitra is a chatbot designed to answer queries related to Aadhaar services. The new enhancements aim to curb fraud associated with Aadhaar updates by proactively contacting users. The chatbot will call individuals who visit banks or Aadhaar centers for authentication or updates, confirming that the action was authorized by them. This will prevent unauthorized changes or tampering with personal data.
At the India AI Impact Summit 2026, UIDAI’s pavilion demonstrated the chatbot’s capabilities. Visitors saw the AI Mitra responding not only in Hindi and English but also in regional languages like Bengali, highlighting its multilingual functionality.
How Aadhaar AI Mitra Works
Currently, users can interact with the chatbot to get general information about Aadhaar services. With the upcoming upgrades, the AI Mitra will call users directly to confirm any Aadhaar-related updates or authentications. If someone attempts unauthorized changes at banks or Aadhaar centers, the chatbot’s verification calls will act as a safeguard, effectively blocking potential fraud.
When Will the New Features Roll Out?
UIDAI officials at the summit confirmed that work on the new features is underway, with a rollout expected soon. Once implemented, millions of users will benefit from these enhanced protections. Meanwhile, the new Aadhaar app has already been downloaded nearly 14 million times, with about 100,000 downloads daily, reflecting growing adoption among citizens.
With these updates, Aadhaar AI Mitra is set to provide safer, smarter, and more accessible Aadhaar services, reducing user concerns and minimizing the risk of fraud.
