Maharashtra to Use AI to Identify Illegal Bangladeshi and Rohingya Immigrants

Mumbai, Maharashtra: The Maharashtra government is preparing to deploy an Artificial Intelligence (AI) tool to identify illegal Bangladeshi and Rohingya immigrants in the state. The tool is being developed in collaboration with IIT Bombay and is expected to play a major role in tackling illegal migration.

Currently, the tool has an accuracy of 60 percent, meaning it correctly identifies 60 out of 100 individuals. Authorities expect its accuracy to reach 100 percent within the next four months, enabling near-complete identification of illegal immigrants.

How the AI Tool Works
Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis explained that the AI tool will analyze data from phones and other sources to identify individuals who entered the country illegally. According to reports, many immigrants initially arrive from West Bengal, obtain fake documents, and then move across different parts of India to benefit from government schemes. The AI system is expected to help authorities track and address such cases more efficiently.

Chief Minister Fadnavis highlighted that several illegal immigrants have already been deported from Mumbai, many of whom came from Bangladesh and used forged documents to access government benefits. The AI tool will assist the police in identifying and taking action against such individuals.

No Cause for Concern for Citizens from Other States
Fadnavis assured that residents from other Indian states in Mumbai have no reason to worry and remain completely safe. He also spoke about the government’s vision for making Mumbai a vibrant and sustainable city, including plans to reduce traffic congestion and improve overall urban living conditions.
