If you enjoy watching movies and shows on JioHotstar, get ready to pay more. From 28 January 2026, the streaming platform will increase subscription prices, with hikes reaching up to ₹700 for certain plans.
Price Changes in Detail
JioHotstar’s Premium annual plan will rise from ₹1,499 to ₹2,199, while the Super annual plan will increase from ₹899 to ₹1,099. The platform has also raised prices for quarterly plans. However, there is no change in mobile-only plans, which means users primarily watching content on phones won’t be significantly affected.
For the first time, monthly plans starting at ₹79 have been introduced, catering to users who prefer shorter-term subscriptions.
What Changes for Viewers
To access Hollywood movies and shows, subscribers will now need a Super or Premium plan, whereas previously such content was available on all plans. Mobile subscribers will have to pay extra for Hollywood content. According to JioHotstar, this change is intended to invest in premium storytelling and high-quality content, with more focus on live sports, original series, and world-class entertainment.
Reason Behind the Price Hike
According to JioHotstar’s CMO, Sushant Shriram, the shift in viewership trends—from mobile to TV screens—and the growing consumption of content across multiple devices have prompted the change. With over one billion downloads on Google Play, JioHotstar aims to invest in better streaming quality, premium content, and live sports support, which necessitated the price increase.
Comparison of Old and New Plans
| Plan Type | Old Price | New Price (from 28 Jan) |
|---|---|---|
| Premium Annual | ₹1,499 | ₹2,199 |
| Super Annual | ₹899 | ₹1,099 |
| Monthly Plan | N/A | ₹79 onwards |
Conclusion
The price hike reflects JioHotstar’s effort to deliver enhanced viewing experiences and premium content, while also catering to users with flexible monthly options. Subscribers will need to decide whether to continue with existing plans or upgrade for full access to Hollywood movies, live sports, and original shows.
