Leaks surrounding Apple’s next flagship, iPhone 18 Pro, suggest major changes to its Face ID and front camera design. Reports indicate that Apple may shift Face ID under the display, potentially eliminating the black capsule-shaped Dynamic Island from the front screen.
Dynamic Island Could Vanish
Trusted leaker ShrimpApplePro reports that the iPhone 18 Pro might remove the Dynamic Island by placing Face ID beneath the screen. Apple is expected to adopt Samsung’s under-screen technology, which it previously used in foldable smartphones, to achieve this design.
Under-Screen Face ID
According to South Korea’s ETNews, the iPhone 18 Pro could feature under-screen Face ID, utilizing Samsung’s under-screen infrared technology. This would mark a significant design shift for iPhones, which have displayed either a notch or the Dynamic Island since the introduction of Face ID. With Face ID hidden under the display, the iPhone’s front appearance may resemble Android smartphones more closely than ever before.
Front Camera May Shift
Leaks also suggest that the front camera may move to the left side of the display, aligning with the under-screen Face ID. While Android devices have long used a left-side punch-hole camera, Apple may adopt this placement while maintaining a distinct brand identity. These changes remain unconfirmed until Apple officially launches the next-generation iPhone.
Improved Display Technology
The iPhone 18 Pro may feature LTPO+ display technology, which is expected to consume less power than the iPhone 17 Pro’s screen. LTPO+ smartly adjusts the refresh rate—slowing it down when the screen is idle and ramping it up during gaming or video playback—potentially improving battery life.
These rumored changes highlight Apple’s continued innovation in design and display technology, setting the stage for a major update in the iPhone’s appearance and performance.
